Endometrial Cancer Symptoms

Endometrial cancer is the fourth most common type of cancer found in United States. About 40,000 American women are diagnosed with endometrial cancer every year. Endometrial cancer is found in the cells that make up the uterus, part of the reproductive system in the women. Uterus is the soft, spongy, hollow and pear-shaped organ where the growth of fetal takes place. Corpus is the upper part of the uterus and cervix is the lower part of the uterus and acts like a link between vagina and uterus. The uterus is formed of two types of layers- endometrial, the inner layer and the myometrium, the outer layer.

During the childbearing age, the lining of uterus grows and thickens to prepare for pregnancy every month. If conception doesn.t take place, the hormone level decreases and the endometrial layer is then shed as menstrual fluid and the period is known as menstruation. Endometrial cancer is also known as uterine cancer. It is common among females after the age of 60 years i.e. after the reproductive years. It is very rarely found in the women who are having regular menstrual periods. Endometrial cancer can spread to other organs of the body if it is not detected and treated at an early stage. Once it has spread to other parts it becomes difficult to cure the cancer. If it is diagnosed at an early stage, it can be cured completely by removing the uterus from the body. About 7,000 American women die each year due to endometrial cancer.

The most common endometrial cancer symptom is the change in menstruation cycle. Abnormal vaginal bleeding is the first symptom that you will notice in the case of endometrial cancer. The reappearance of bleeding is the major endometrial cancer symptoms in postmenopausal women. heavier or more frequent period or bleeding between periods act as one of the major endometrial cancer symptoms in the women who are going through the menopause or who have not been through it.

Due to unnoticed heavy bleeding may result in development of other severe diseases also like anemia, caused by chronic loss of blood. Pain and difficulty can be felt during urination. Any pink, white or watery discharge from your vagina can also indicate the presence of the tumor in the uterus. Other conditions such as pain in pelvic area or pain during intercourse can be one of the potential endometrial cancer symptoms. A lump or swelling in the pelvic area can be noticed. Unintentional weight loss can be its major consequence. Weight loss without any reason can be very dangerous to the body and leads the development of other infections in the body. Pain in lower abdomen can also be felt. Rarely does endometrial cancer reach an advanced stage before any signs and symptoms are present. Consult your doctor as soon as you notice any of the above mentioned endometrial cancer symptoms. Don.t take it lightly; it can be very dangerous to your life.
