Colon Cancer Symptoms

Colon cancer symptoms are not very common and do not appear in the early stages. Size and position of cancer in the body greatly affects the nature of symptoms. They vary largely depending upon it. Colon cancer can grow for a number of years without being in notice. But as the cancer grows to its advanced stage, the symptoms of colon cancer start appearing which may cause several problems.

The most common symptom of colon cancer ever seen is bleeding from the rectum. The bleeding is caused due to the tumor developed in the passage of feces. The blood may light red or dry or invisible, if the tumor is very near to the beginning of the colon. The blood may be hidden in the stool. But if the tumor is at the end of colon, the blood will be dark red and easily visible. Due to heavy bleeding, there are chances of developing anemia, which is caused due to deficiency of iron in the body. Iron is the element which transports oxygen to the cells. Deficiency of iron leads to deficiency of oxygen in the body which is very dangerous.

Another common colon cancer symptoms is the change in the bowel habits. You may suffer from heavy diarrhea or constipation. This change may lasts for few weeks. Changes in bowel habits include change in character or frequency of stool. If the tumor is at the end of the colon, you suffer from high constipation because there is blockage in the passage due to the tumor. There may be a feeling that bowel is not completely empty.

Fatigue can be also one of the colon cancer symptoms. Fatigue can be severe or mild. Your skin may get pale. Your body is not capable of doing even your daily routine workout. Weakness can be felt in the body.

There can be loss of appetite due to colon cancer. And this will lead to heavy weight loss. This heavy weight loss and loss of appetite is caused due to discomfort and pain because of the growth of tumor in the colon. Tumor releases a chemical which increases metabolism and which leads to unnecessary weight loss. And this is not good for health. You may have to bear problems like vomiting, nausea, a slew of common viruses, motion sickness, and unpleasant smell or sight due to colon cancer.

Abdominal pain or rectal pains are one of the rare but important colon cancer symptoms. Infection and inflammation may be caused due to leakage of contents of bowel into the pelvis. Pain in the rectum indicates the presence of a large tumor in the rectum which is invading all the surrounding tissues. Due to the blockage of blood flow to the colon, cramps are created in the abdomen which causes severe pain. A feeling of gassy or bloating also indicates the growth of tumor in the colon. If you notice any of the above mentioned symptoms, do consult your physician about further knowledge and treatment.
