Cervical Cancer Symptoms

The lower part of the womb is called as cervix. Cervical cancer symptoms usually go unnoticed. There is an abnormal growth of the cells of the cervix. In the initial stages the symptoms are hardly present. When symptoms are present normally they appear when the cancer is advanced.

Following are the cervical cancer symptoms:
Abnormal bleeding: Women may experience excessive, intermittent or light bleeding during the menstrual cycle.
Heavy discharge: Increased, unusual, heavy and unpleasant vaginal discharge is also a common cervical cancer symptom that occurs due to a large tumor that has been formed and had become infected which leads to bad smell. This discharge smells foul; it might be pale, watery, and bloody or be thick and at times might be resistant to treatments too. There might also be leak of feces or urine from the vagina. Periods may prolong.
Pelvic Pain: Pelvic pain which may be unrelated to the normal menstrual cycle could be a cervical cancer symptom. The pain could anywhere from dull to sharp which last for several hours to days.

Advanced cervical cancer symptoms:
As the cancer increases in size there is a lateral growth around the pelvic wall. Mostly they grow slowly and the problems occur around the pelvis.
Cervical cancer symptoms during the advanced stages when it grows and spreads to the other parts of the body include:
1. Pain during urination: This symptom occurs when the cervical cancer spreads up to the bladder. There might be pain or it may burn while urinating or during urination or simply uncontrollable pain in the bladder. There might also be severe pain in the lower abdomen. In more serious conditions, the urinary tract or the kidneys may be blocked if timely treatment is not taken. Also there might be interrupted flow of urine which might make one uncomfortable.
2. Unexplained bleeding during or after menstruation: Bleeding or regular spotting might occur during or after the intercourse or between the periods followed by unusual discomfort and pain. It could be heavy or mild and might last for a longer time. This is normally due to the appearance of genital warts which are white in colour, fleshy and smooth.
3. There might be pain in the lower back, pelvic pain, pain during sexual intercourse and pain in the legs due to the obstruction in the pelvic lymph nodes. Any one leg might be swollen. Bone may also get fractured.
4. Rapid loss in weight, and appetite, fatigue, vomiting, depression and anemia due to heavy bleeding are further symptoms of cervical cancer.
5. Feeling of excessive tiredness, low in energy and shortness of breath with a general feeling of illness or fever.
6. Cervical cancer if spreads to the other organs of the body may cause constipation, abnormal opening in the cervix and obstruction in the tube that carries urine to the bladder which leads to urinary problems. During the advanced cervical cancer symptoms there might also be quite a painful defecation or rectal bleeding. Failure of kidney is another cervical cancer symptom.
