Canine Cancer Symptoms
It is very important to keep a close look at our dogs as they are most important part of our family when they are with us. A dog affected by canine cancer, has problems with the replacement of the cells. Cancer in dogs affects the skin, bone and other organs of the body. Following are the common canine cancer symptoms:
1. Mouth: Swellings which are abnormal and continue to grow with time. A lump or growth could be found.
2. Skin: Sores that don.t heal
3. Nose: Bleeding or discharge from any opening in the body, specially the nose.
4. Difficulty to breathe, urinate or defecate
5. Difficult to eat or swallow. Gums might bleed or some kind of growth could also be seen on the gums.
6. Loss in weight, fever and low appetite, sleeping all the time
7. Continuous lameness
8. Loss of stamina, hesitant to exercise
9. Breast: Swelling in the breast or a bump
There are five common types of canine cancer in dogs. They are:
1. Lymphosarcoma: This cancer is related to the dog.s lymphoid system. Canine cancer symptoms of this kind are: swellings in the lymph nodes, vomiting, loss in weight, lack of appetite, breathing difficulties or shortness of breath, one or more lumps on the skin or in the mouth.
2. Hemangiosarcoma: This cancer may be found anywhere in the dog.s body. It specially occurs from the cells of the dog.s blood vessels. The canine cancer symptoms of this type are: A ruptured tumor which is usually full of blood which will lead to anemia and weakness in the dog. If the tumor grows in the skin, then a lump or swelling might be felt. If the tumor grows in the bone then, a swelling or a lump occurs in the bone.
3. Osteosarcoma: This cancer originates in the bones of the dog, mostly in the limbs. The canine cancer symptoms include: lameness, pain in the bones, swelling and the dog will be reluctant to exercise. If the cancer spreads to the lungs then the symptoms could coughing and difficulty in breathing. The dog might become inactive, sleepy and crying. Due to pain the dog might also become aggressive and irritable. The dog might limp while walking. Severe pain might stop the use of the leg which is affected by pain.
4. Mammary Carcinoma: This kind of tumor is mostly common in female dogs. The canine cancer symptoms of this type are: a mass or many swellings in the mammary gland, initially they are small but grow in size very rapidly.
5. Mastocytomas: These tumors are also called as .mast cell tumors.. They are commonly seen in the skin, and may spread gradually to the liver, spleen, bone marrow or the lymph nodes. The symptoms of canine cancer found are: one or more than one lump, which might look smooth, bumpy or have grown in an ulcer. Lack of appetite, vomiting and pain in the abdomen might occur.
6. Nasal Chondrosarcoma: The common canine cancer symptom of this type is: sneezing and difficulty in breathing. There might be a discharge from the dog.s nose. Swelling may be found where the ribs come together. Pain in the pelvis might occur during medical check up.
